My Personal Crafting Chaos

Share Handmade Kindness

Work and other life responsibilities has prevented my from getting my post up for the Share Handmade Kindness Campaign that was launched by Jennifer McGuire on November 1. I am happy to say that I was able to participate.  A dear friend at work has recently lost her only brother after a very difficult 2 year batter with liver cancer.  She has really been struggling with all the responsibilities of taking care of the business end of things and trying to grieve the loss.  She has always loved getting handmade cards so last week I made one and surprised her.  She was so very excited about it and I was so happy to see the smile on her face. The card was actually CASED from the Altenew website. You can see the original card here.  I hope you enjoy it also.

Products Used

Stamp Set: Peony Scrolls by Altenew

Ink: Ranger Archival Black

Paper: Stampers Select White by Paper Trey Ink

Watercolors: Zig Kuretake Gansai Tambi 36 color set

Sequins: Pretty Pink Posh

I am so appreciative to Jennifer McGuire for launching this campaign.  With recent events in the world we need to show our love and appreciate to everyone.  A hand made card or other item just means so much more.  I am continuing to participate, but it looks like I will be a week behind all month.  Take care and spread kindness of any kind.

It Moose Be Love

Christmas projects are in full swing now.  The set I used this week is one I believe came out last year but did not really get a chance to use it.  Lawn Fawn’s Critters in the Arctic is so cute.  The really exciting thing for me today is that I came up with another technique to do with my MISTI (The Most Incredible Stamp Tool Invented).  While I am sure I am not the first to think of it, I have not seen it done before.  I used the MISTI to create a reverse image of a stamp.  As you can see the image on the left is the original stamp and it was done in watercolors.  The image on the right is the reverse and it was done with Copics.  I intended to due both in watercolor, however I found that the technique worked best on non-watercolor paper.  The texture of the watercolor paper tended to cause the ink to bleed into the grain.  So what I did was to stamp the image on acetate with a pigment ink, in this case, Versafine Sepia, then turn the acetate over and press it done onto the cardstock creating the reverse image.  The MISTI’s real value in this technique is the ability to stamp on the acetate several times to get a good buildup of ink. I then took a Sepia colored marker and deepened the image outline to resemble its counterpart.  One pass thought the Brother Scan n Cut and you have a perfect mirror image.  Although not rocket science I was pretty excited that I was able to make it work so well. I hope you enjoy the card.

Celebrate The Season

Today, I finished up all my Halloween crafts & decorations and packed up the supplies.  As October nears its end it is time to focus on Christmas.  One of the first cards I made for for the holidays this year is from PaperTreyInk’s recent release.  Star Scribbles stamp set & matching dies is a very fun & simple design but has great possibilities. I think it is one that could be utilized all year long.  Any time you need a star themed set, this one is a good choice.

The supplies used are listed below:

Cardstock – PaperTreyInk Stamper’s Select white

Stamp Set & Dies – PaperTreyInk Star Scribbles; Stampin Up Endless Wishes

Embossing Powder – Ranger Liquid Platinum

Ink – VersaMark & VersaFine Onyx Black

I hope you enjoy this card and have many happy hours of holiday crafting ahead.

A CASE of Thanks

There are so many fantastic stamp sets coming out for the holiday season.  We are definitely spoiled for choice.  I am really trying to control my urge to buy them all. One set from Wplus9 that caught my attention is ‘Autumn Leaves’. It has a good variety of leaf stamps in various sizes with solids & outlines.  I don’t have anything like it and could be used for any season/occasion.  The card is a case from one of the designers, Kara Vrabel.  You can find the original card here and Kara’s blog at here.

The inks and patterned paper are from Stampin’ Up and the base cardstock is PaperTreyInk’s Stampers Select.  I also used the coordinating die set.

This next card is the same layout but using a different color configuration for the leaves.

I have been on vacation for the last several days and spending most of my time crafting.  It has been just wonderful. Thanks for stopping by.  Any constructive feedback regarding the blog would be greatly appreciated. Definitely could use some tips on photographing.

New Blog New Blogger

Welcome to BlueRoomCrafts!!!

Hello all, My name is Jacqueline and I finally decided to bite the bullet and start a blog.  I have spent some time listening to successful bloggers and the one thing that really made sense to me is to blog for the right reasons.  My main reason is simple.  To have a way to share my crafty creations and participate in crafting activities online, i.e. blog hops, challenges etc.  I have tried to do it without a blog and have just found it to be cumbersome.

I mostly stamp & create cards. So to start things off I thought I would just post a few projects I have created.

I created this card for Sandy Allnock’s Go For The Gold class.  I used a kraft card stock & added double sided tape circles with gold foiling.  The stamp set & die is Big Bloom by Winnie & Walter for Simon Says Stamps’ Stamptember event.  I did not have any gold crackle product so I used Ranger’s crackle accents and mixed in gold perfect pearls.  No sure were the twine is from but it is a neutral twine w/ gold thread.

I am a nurse in my real life and so have an extensive collection of nurse/medical themed craft products.  The main image is by Mo Manning, colored with Copic markers.

Halloween Paper Doll

Halloween Paper Doll

This tag is made with Julie Nutting’s paper dolls.  I really love playing with these.  I guess it satisfies my inner child. Well, in reality I am just a little kid in a grown up body.

Thank you for stopping by.  I hope that you will follow along with me as I take this blog journey.  As with any journey the best part is not the destination but the journey itself.

Hugs & Happy Crafting, Jacqueline
